Google Labs has launched a new AI-powered app called Dreambeans for iOS and Android, designed to literally animate your life. According to product lead Gozde Oznur, the app uses data from various Google services to generate a curated list of AI-illustrated "stories". These stories typically offer lifestyle suggestions such as places to visit, topics to explore, things to try, upcoming trips, and events to be aware of.
Dreambeans utilizes Personal Intelligence to connect information from Google apps like Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and Search History to curate a finite collection of daily stories aimed at sparking new ideas. For instance, it might recommend a new coffee shop near the user's home or provide insights on living with a new puppy if that event is noted in the Google Calendar.
The app also serves as an antidote to doomscrolling, limiting users to 10 to 14 stories per day to inspire them to live their lives. According to Oznur, privacy protections are robust, with only users able to access the app's stories. Users can delete their data at any time and choose which Google services to connect to the tool.
As for the name "Dreambeans", Oznur explains that it reflects how the app works while users are asleep, processing vast amounts of data and providing concentrated inspiration in the morning, much like starting the day with a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
Currently, Dreambeans is available only to eligible U.S.-based Google AI Ultra subscribers on Android and iOS, with a waitlist open for personal Google account users.
