“The minute you think you’ve done everything you can for Lincoln Lab, the next thing you know you’re belly‑crawling through a mock rubble pile,” says photographer Niki Fandel. As MIT Lincoln Laboratory’s staff photographer she joins hundreds of shoots each year, documenting technical breakthroughs—from functional fibers to advanced radar systems—and the engineers who develop them for national security.
